Nowadays, parents are trying to make their children do things like they used to do in that age. But everything has changed, new ways of living have been developed, so it'll be unfair to pressurize someone to live with the old standards.
Some things, like culture, never change and shouldn't too, but the rest can be given a thought. We as humans don't always do the ordered things well, that's why parents should first listen to what their children say before making any assumption about their rightness and wrongness. Be frank with them, learn what they meant, maybe you are not seeing things by their view, maybe you just know half of the story. Honestly, you can't even make yourself do everything that you intend to do, so give yourself a break from pulling the triggers.
